Book excerpt: The use of microscale aquatic tests is expected to remain very broad-based and invaluable for chemical screening, pollution prevention and control, and environmental impact assessment. The evolution of different tests, supporting methodologies and applications will involve the fields of biotechnology, remote sensing and monitoring, and environmental conservation and protection, among other things. Within this framework, future developments and applications of microscale testing are briefly discussed in this chapter.
