Book excerpt: Description: This series (1 folder) consists of letters to and from Sergeant Calvin Benedict and his family. In all but two pieces of correspondence, Sgt. Benedict is being held as a German prisoner of war in Stalag IV-B near Muhlberg, Germany. In his letters, Sgt. Benedict repeats the same message of being in good health and spirit. The camp was liberated by the Russians in January 1945, and Sgt. Benedict was sent to Moscow, Russia, after traveling through Poland. Most of the letters sent to Sgt. Benedict were from his parents, Carton and Zide Benedict, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The bulk of the letters sent to Sgt.
