This story was inspired by a real shark named Hilton, who was being tracked in the waters off the coast of Nova Scotia by the data-centered organization OCEARCH. The author’s book Something's Fishy (2011), which also had a protagonist who was fascinated by sharks, was nominated for the Shining Willow Award and was a CCBC Best Book.
