Book excerpt: The purpose of this document is to report on the progress made by the Council in the area of social impact assessment (SIA) research over the past two years and to provide recommendations for future initiatives. It includes a review of SIA research initiatives undertaken by the Council between September 1985 and October 1987; a synthesis of the research findings; observations and conclusions about SIA research in the context of existing practices and future trends; and recommendations for future research.
