Book excerpt: A functional equation related to Taylor's theorem in normed spaces is considered, and its most general solutions are characterized. As a byproduct, some simple local and global uniqueness results for solutions of polynomial operator equations are obtained and illustrated by problems for generalized inverses. (Author).
