Book excerpt: Data collection is one in a series of surveys designed to measure public attitudes toward the European Economic Community and the Common Market. There is a particular focus on health topics such as drugs, alcohol, and cancer and on respondent knowledge of and attitudes toward anticipated effects of the Single European Market of 1992. Attitudes concerning social goals and life satisfaction are also queried. In addition, the respondents' political orientation, outlook for the future, and socioeconomic and demographic characteristics are surveyed.
