Book excerpt: Life. This is an area about which man has the greatest knowledge. However it is only a pit stop for the human race. What lies before and beyond this little pit stop is open to heavy debate. In fact most people take birth to be the beginning. Death on the other hand is spoken of as being either a full stop for the person or a continuation of life’s journey to somewhere in the unknown. This has given rise to religion. A set of rules was created to explain the unexplainable and this code of morals governed our journey to either a wondrous existence in Heaven or to the fiery confines of Hell. But this book is not dealing with theology. It relates to History – Egyptian History to be more specific – it is the chronicle of events that unfolded during the reign of King Hatshepsut of the Egyptian Empire almost one thousand five hundred years before the birth of Christ. To understand the ancient Egyptians, we must grasp their concepts of earth, heaven and hell. Their life was ruled by their religion.
