Book excerpt: Excerpt from Report of the Attorney General for the Year Ending November 30, 1942 Complaints of the nature referred to in a communication under date of March 21, 1942, from the Attorney General to the Commissioner have been received by this Department up to the present time. They have been less numerous in the latter part of the year than at that date, and the Commissioner has expressed complete' willingness to adjust them when brought to his attention. Obviously, a condition which tends to undermine confidence in the good faith of this government should not pass Unnoticed. Large taxpayers and hotel owners, represented by counsel, are able to prevent illegal exactions. Proprietors of small businesses, many of them today without help, with their young people in the armed forces, are the Victims of overzealous attempts to collect revenue for the govern ment beyond the intent of the Legislature in writing a tax law.
