Book excerpt: The topic 'Romanian Studies at the Turn of the Century' was chosen as the theme for the Fifth International Conference of the Center for Romanian Studies, held in Iasi, Romania, from 28th June to 1st July 1999. During the sessions held at the Palace of Culture in Iasi, participants discussed the current status and future direction of Romanian studies in the areas of history, literature, and culture.
