Book Synopsis Tales from the Bloated Goat by : Herman A. Hoover

Book excerpt: The author's lively memoirs of his days in this "ghost town". No one today, and not many of the old timers back then, kniew Mogollon as well as H.A. Hoover. His reminiscences begin in 1904, continue through the boom days, and he was still there, keeping a diary, in the 1950s when they started to call Mogollon a "ghost town". The Bloated Goat Saloon was where the old timers gathered and here are some of the best stories they told: tales of Indians and desperadoes, mountain lions and mountain man Ben Lilly, the Mogollon Mountains, 24-horse teams and home life in a unique frontier town. Reprint of Texas Western Press, 1958. 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, 64 pgs, b&w historical photos.
