Fought on September 27, 1864, the Battle of Marianna was the climax of the deepest raid into Confederate Florida by Federal forces during the enter Civil War. On the Union side, forces included men from the 2nd Maine Cavalry, 82nd and 86th U.S. Colored Infantries, the 1st Florida U.S. Cavalry and one man from the 7th Vermont Veteran Volunteers. On the Confederate side, forces included Chisolm's company of Alabama militia cavalry, the 1st Florida Reserves and home guard units from Marianna, Greenwood and Campbellton. This book is the most detailed account of the battle to date and the only one in print.
