Book excerpt: The book describes five core personality strengths and cognitive capacities that every leader must have: empathy, self-control,/judgment self-awareness, critical thinking/judgment and trust. The author's combined her experience and knowledge as a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist with the wisdom of the United States Army's perspective on leader development to create a model that boards, search committees, private equity and investment bankers can use to assess potential leader candidates. The model is also presented in a manner that leaders and managers can use themselves to develop their leadership capacities.
