Book Synopsis A Descriptive Catalogue of the Manuscripts in the Library of Pembroke College, Cambridge (Classic Reprint) by : Montague Rhodes James

Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Descriptive Catalogue of the Manuscripts in the Library of Pembroke College, Cambridge Out of over three hundred manuscripts in the Library of Pembroke College about half belong to the first of my two classes, and were acquired at various times during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. They are not by any means all the books that the College possessed. We have lists, doubtless incomplete, of gifts of books made by early Fellows and Masters, from which we learn that many volumes have been lost. It is not to be expected that these will be traced out now; yet the unexpected does sometimes happen, and a Pembroke manuscript may be seen in the University Library at Leyden 1.
