Book excerpt: The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) has the responsibility for maintaining the quality of basic training presented in California. The basic course certification review process was developed as a means to assure that all standards are being met. The review involves academy self-assessment and professional peer review. POST adopted these policies, procedures, and standards after consultation with practitioners in the field and presenters of the basic course. This manual will provide the agency and POST staff with the needed information and guidance to conduct a successful certification review.
