Book excerpt: This brief report on the topic of the public education of adults indicates that progress has been made in the field of child development and parent education; that this field has been stimulated by large appropriations from private and public sources; that public agencies are taking over more and more of the responsibility for parent education; that colleges and universities and State departments of education have an important place in the development of this new field of education; that the parent-teacher movement is growing in significance and effectiveness; and that parent consciousness has been awakened to the need for a better understanding of the problems of child care and training and to the importance of the task in education which they share with teachers. This bulletin covers the following topics: (1) Public education of adults: Movement during decade 1920-1930; (2) Elementary education for adults under public-school auspices; (3) Rehabilitation work pays; (4) Work done by States; (5) University extension; (6) Alumni education; (7) Parent education: Growth and significance of movement; and (8) Organizations conducting parent education projects.
