Book Synopsis Building Customs in Viking Age Denmark by : Holger Schmidt

Book excerpt: This book is a discursive attempt to reconstruct the appearance of Viking buildings in Denmark. This is difficult, as the author makes clear, firstly because there is little archaeological evidence for the form of the superstructure and, secondly, because of the wide chronological and geographical variation in type. Still, the presentation in English of comparative material from selected settlements and house-sites (both drawings and descriptions) and the vision presented will form useful resources for anybody interested in the architectural forms of this formative period.
