Book excerpt: This is the sixth annual review of trends in energy use, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Canada, using 1990 as the baseline year. Chapter 1 describes the relationship between energy efficiency, secondary energy use, and GHG emissions, as well as the approach & data used to model these relationships. Chapter 2 presents results of the analysis of economy-wide trends in end-use energy, energy efficiency, and emissions. The remaining chapters describe the evolution of energy use & its major determinants along with trends in GHG emissions in the following sectors: residential, commercial, industrial, transportation, and agriculture. Appendices include information on data sources and methodology, a reconciliation of data on energy use in this report with Statistics Canada's Quarterly report on energy supply & demand, and a glossary.
