Book excerpt: Group work is a modality that is used extensively with older adults. Historically, most group work practice with older adults occurred in long-term social, recreational, and therapeutic groups in community and institutional settings. More recently, however, there has been an increase in short-term psychoeducational groups, reminiscence and life review groups, self-help groups, and support groups for older persons residing in community and institutionalized settings.
