The mission ary, states that she was a woman of fine natural abilities, a good mother, though without the advantages of any education. They raised a large family. Boutwell, the first missionary at Leech Lake, still living in 'ashington County, Minnesota, near Stillwater, says: I knew him as a good Christian man, and as one desirous of giving his children the benefits of a Christian education. Mrs. A yer says: He was among the first to invite American mission aries into the region of Lake Superior. And he assisted them as he had opportunity, not only by his in uence, but some times by his purse. He united with the mission church at Mackinaw, where he was married. Rev.
