Book excerpt: century achieved a clear and prominent place in the field of philosophy. Though he was not considered as a philosopher in the view of world philosophy, but he had a distinct philosophical method which is independent from any of the Indian philosophical school of thought as well as from the different branches of western philosophy. His philosophy may have some moorings in Indian philosophical system of Vedanta and Sankhya but his concept of human cycle and divine life can be considered an independent and totally new concept in the world of philosophy. Eventually his idea of Purna Yoga and integral yoga is an independent yoga. Independent from the concept of school of yogadarshana. It is different from Hasta-Pada Yoga. His yoga is based on the force of consciousness and a probability of unity between individual and the whole universe. Sri Aurobindo the evolutionary thinker and one of the protagonists of Indian freedom struggle has two different phases of life. His life was divided between a revolutionary and a seer or philosopher. His life is transformed into a seer by the revelation of divinity in the jail itself where he was imprisoned, as claimed by him in his later writings. Aurobindo's philosophy is based on Vedanta but not merely an interpretation of Vedanta and advaitism rather his philosophy can be described as to introduce a new system and method of understanding the reality.
