Book excerpt: This book provides material for a complete first-year dictation course which begins with the simplest melodies and rhythms, and progresses to the dictation of Bach chorale settings. The book introduces the elements of music (note values, key signatures, chord types, etc.) gradually and (usually) in the order in which they are studied in standard freshman theory courses.
