Book excerpt: New Family Values provides a critical analysis of scholars and authors who argue that law and policy should be used to foster one model of family--the intact two-parent (heterosexual) family. The author argues that this position does not adequately address the problem in purports to solve -family dissolution--and unnecessarily constrains personal liberty. Civic stability and individual well-being require healthy families, but do not necessitate uniformity in family form.
