Book excerpt: Reflection City is a magical place, visible for only one month every fifteen years. Its inhabitants have been hidden away for two generations by a spell designed to keep the city safe from war, the cruelty of others, and extremes of weather. When Joel, the new king of Regstar, discovers Reflection City hidden in the mountains of his own kingdom, he is amazed. He meets a beautiful princess named Phylass, and they fall in love. In spite of her fathers wishes, Phylass leaves Reflection City to be with Joel, knowing that she will be unable to return home for the next fifteen years. They are married, and soon the queen gives birth to a daughter named Donellabut in the process loses her life. When the princess is fourteen, however, she is kidnapped and taken to the city where her mother would have reigned. With Donella trapped inside as Reflection City disappears, Joel has no way to save his only childand now invaders are approaching his kingdom. His only hope is Asher, a young knight who grew up with Donella. Can Asher rescue the princess and save the kingdom of Regstar? In this fantasy novel, a king and his knight must work together to protect their kingdom and rescue a kidnapped princess from a magical city.
