Book excerpt: This volume describes the critical issues involved in scaling the technology of proton synchrotrons to operate at energies much larger than those of existing accelerators. Luminosity limitions and interdependence of machine characteristics are analyzed. The second section presents analyses of the detector technologies needed to utilize a hadron super collider at the highest energies and luminosities.
