Book excerpt: This book offers the first in-depth study of Attic funerary monuments during the geometric, archaic, and classical period. The analysis of forms, images and inscriptions shows, from an anthropological perspective, the Athenian attitude towards death in its fundamental difference to Christian occidental views.
