Book Synopsis The Impact of Technologies on Learning in the Workplace by : Canada. Human Resources Development Canada. Office of Learning Technologies

Book excerpt: The objective of the project reported was to examine learning technologies in the workplace and, in particular, the meaning and implications of these technologies (such as CD-ROM, videoconferencing, the Internet, and computer-based training) for life-long learning. Three components of the research described are: a trends analysis that examined current trends in learning technologies and labour market trends affecting the adoption, implementation, and success of learning technologies in the workplace, based on literature reviews, case studies, and comments from experts; case studies conducted with eight firms to assess their implementation of learning technologies, providing information on issues such as access, overcoming barriers and gaps, and learning opportunities and benefits for workers; and a survey of employers that allowed comparison of training in 1995 with current training activities. The appendix contains a copy of the survey questionnaire.
