Book excerpt: This publication looks at the social processes involved in the making of news. Based primarily on interviews with over seventy foreign correspondents working in Southeast Asia, it examines such factors as career patterns, organizational demands, news values, source structures, and the attitudes and activities of Southeast Asian governments in influencing the content of news. It thus illuminates a central topic in international communication and brings to light one perspective of the relationship between the Third World and the foreign press.
