Book excerpt: This report presents the results of research performed to identify and assess the work zone-related legislation that has been implemented in various states nationwide. As of 1997, 42 states had passed legislation pertaining to traffic laws in work zones. The report includes information on the types of legislation that has been passed, implementation characteristics and issues encountered by state transportation agencies, analysis of the effect of the legislation on work zone accidents, and enforcement characteristics and issues encountered pertaining to the legislation.
